Twistfix renovation products have been used on a prestige damp proofing project near Southampton. Hamble Manor House, a striking and imposing building with white painted walls, was once owned by infamous London gangsters the Kray twins. It has now been converted into 14 luxury apartments but, as it was in a state of such disrepair, had to undergo a detailed structural survey and complete refurbishment first.
Working closely with the owners and their structural engineers, experienced damp surveyors from Perma-Fix planned a damp control strategy that would treat the damp walls and have the apartments habitable in the shortest period of time. Their operatives co-ordinated and executed the detailed recommendations drawn up from the initial survey.
This repair work included clearing blockages in the wall cavity that were bridging the original DPC and rendering it useless. This was followed by the installation of a remedial chemical damp proof course, utilising BBA Certified Damp-Cure cream supplied by Twistfix. Slim air-gap membranes were then fitted to the brick walls to create a physical moisture and salt barrier between the damp but drying brickwork and the new internal finishes, thus negating the need for dense rendering and speeding up the process of drying out. All of the work is fully covered by a long-term, independent insurance-backed guarantee.
