How to Prevent Damp Walls
Damp is an extremely common structural defect and can occur for all sorts of different reasons. While it is usually possible to remedy an issue with damp, the best thing to do is to prevent it from ever occurring in the first place. As the old saying goes, prevention is better than cure!
Damp proofing is a Twistfix speciality and we supply a comprehensive range of high-quality products designed to facilitate this crucial process. One of these products is the Damp Check Mesh Membrane Kit, a product that is so popular among our discerning customers that it is consistently to be found on our list of bestselling items. Let's take a look at the kit in more detail.
The Damp Check Kit from Twistfix allows the user to create a durable, highly-effective barrier against moisture and the damage it can cause. It is designed to provide versatility when isolating damp walls from internal finishes and so can be used for a variety of applications. It is especially useful after a remedial damp proof course has been installed. The kit can also be used to waterproof wet rooms and showers.
The mesh membrane supplied with our bestselling Damp Check kit combines stand-off studs with a mesh face that can easily accept tile adhesive, cement renders and dot-and-dab dry lining. It is especially flexible, allowing it to bend around corners. The air gaps between the studs allow masonry walls to breathe naturally and the membrane's mesh face is designed to permit water to drain away, preventing walls from becoming damp.
The first step to installing the membrane is to drill anchor holes; these will be the receptacles for the hammer-in plugs that secure the membrane to the wall. All joints can then be sealed using high-strength tape crafted from robust butyl rubber. Plaster, tiles or plasterboard sheets can then be directly applied to the installed mesh.
Our comprehensive kit includes a roll of quality tanking membrane measuring a generous ten metres in length. 100 hammer in fixing plugs and a ten metre roll of butyl waterproofing tape are also included.
